Portals

The classic physics is great, but I meet some posts in what people want to extend game engine and me too. I think that in mix with sonic physics will be interesting portals. I mean portals like in Portal from Valve, did anyone played it? What do you think about it?

Re: Portals

One detail: I mean portals with saving acceleration and speed, not just teleporting (like orig Portal but in 2D).

Re: Portals

That may become a good feature. How could that be applied to a sonic-like game?

Re: Portals

i am thinking of a wonder boy/shadow of the beast style platform rpg/adventure style for the mod in my mind. so an inventory would be cool for this too, where special items or abilitys can be aquired in order to progress and revisiting prevoius areas to explore further the story. These abilitys could be via a cost in rings..I also think that the warp zone would be a cool feature (remember from sonic the movie) where in certain points in a level/area sonic reaches full speed whilst passing a node point that initiates the warp zone and pops out the other side some where ellse, where as knuckles/tail may have to fly or break/climb thier way to get to the same spot.

Re: Portals

It may be a one level like Death Egg Zone(there is some special items like "ring way") in S&K were portals will in use very offten. And of cause it isnt a main gameplay concept, just little future to play with sonic-physics. You may look gameplay of Portal on YouTube to understand fully what I mean, if you dont want to install and play it.

Re: Portals

In portal you have a gun that shoots 2 portals. One orange and one blue. Step through the orange portal and you'll walk out through the blue portal. Now put the portal in the ceiling and the other on the floor, and you'll fall forever with incresed speed. You can also shoot a portal in the floor 20 meter below you, another on a wall 20 meters above you. If you fall with an angle with speed then you're able to go through the portals two timesand end up at a floor 10 meters above your initial location. Here is a video showing some physics of Portal:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zx9XgJkNL_8

Now let's practice this in Sonic: Look at Green Hill zone act 2 on master system. The block that you fall through  is one portal, and where you end in the cave is the other portal. Now take a nail trap with a long distance covered in nails. You add a floor portal, and a wall portal say 100 meters up in the sky on a cliff wall. When Sonic with his momentum moves towards the nailtraps he's flung down through the portal and is then shot out off the cliff and blazing overhead the nails before he lands on solid ground.
