well, it was actually the progress we had up until the release day, so we thought we could adapt some open sonic/surge levels and release it as an april fools package.
there is an easter egg somewhere in the first level. don't wonder if it crashes the game though.

i dont recall the rip sources, but those are definetly ripped it is likely they have come from there or any other fighting game.

thats a game i dont recall ever seeing in the arcades, i only know it through emulation and vaguely. and i used to go to the arcade quite a bit in the 90's, so yeah i guess it is that obscure.

found the source of those rips. the images are indeed from world heroes, as well as many of the old background parts. for such an obscure game, the graphics were quite good. and your trivia on this game is accurate, the stairs are from China stage and the red and blue-ish walls are indeed from Hanzo's. So are the pigeons

There's a girl in your game that climbs walls and can even "suspend herself" in the ceiling and move! That's amazing. We could do something like that for Charge too.

yup i'm planning to convert it to charge once i can weed out all the bugs (not shown) like corners only working one way and direction not being changeable. also i have a question/suggestion: is it possible to set the player direction via scripting? we have look_* decorators for objects, but players do not. it is possible to make an object be a fake player, but it is unnecessarily complicated. we can not change directly functions like *direction(), can we?

There isn't a command to do that, as the direction of the player is handled by the physics engine. One possible workaround is: you can set_player_xspeed to zero and then simulate a key press to left or to right (while the player movement is activated)
You can even create an object that provides such functionality.

good news! the climbing system is nearly complete. it allows switching from walls to ceilings and vice versa. it only uses 3 separate objects, 2 for corners and one for breaking the climb at any point. it needs polishing before being converted to Charge. it uses brick collision decorators to identify walls or ceilings, everything should be fine with 90's 180's and 270's, but there is a problem with 0º bricks because the engine identifies them as ground, wall or ceiling depending from which side the collision is detected. it does not work on wall/ceiling slopes
For maximum compatibility with Charge, the sensor may need repositioning, but as long as the hotspot is at the bottom center it should be in place for a char around 48 px tall . we are going to need a ceiling animation for charge, similar to the one used for the t-bar.
also there is a separate set of scripted walls, ceilings and floors that the climbing object recognizes, so that it is possible to climb sections where pixel perfect collision creates undulated and rough surfaces.
this may be ready later on today. do you want the basic set, or the full set with scripted bricks?

First time here in this post and that picture made my day.
P.D: There are also rats with weapons but they are from Beyond Oasis and I think that if you go beyond the oasis it's normal to see rats with weapons.
Sorry about the offtopic, the new character sprites look good.
I hope you improve the "sword slash" sprites too, it's tooo "stiff" of an animation.
Maybe if you give it more fps...
