EDIT (Hours later): I can't play the game! It CRASHES immediately every time I try to load it with a so-called fatal error saying that it can't start just because overlays are not supported in graphic mode 1280x960. Can you fix it? sad

Months later, here is your solution: delete preferences.dat and then run the game again. It will create a new preferences.dat file and start at the default window resolution.

Re: Sonic the hedgehog adventure Version Final

I have to say, this is an amazing piece of work, kudos to its creator. I wanted to try to improve the experience in a similar fashion to what I had done for Open Sonic, so here is my attempt at an updated opensurge 0.2.0 (build 760) engine executable, which is used to power this mod.

To use the updated engine, first you need to download the original Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure game from the link found in the first post of this thread. Then download the updated engine files from here and unzip the contents to the root folder of the StHA game, overwriting any files as necessary. Then, just run the opensurge.exe file and you should be set. The zipped file you download contains the binaries needed to run the game, the changelog from the standard build 760 of the engine, the patch file for applying my changes to the opensurge build 760 source code and a preferences.dat file which will launch the game in borderless fullscreen and sound volume set to 2/10.

New features in this patch:

  • Smoother gameplay with the use of vsync. Vsync is on by default, off when eco (from ecology, reduced power consumption) CPU usage is enabled.

  • Audio volume can now be set in Options and command line.

  • Borderless Fullscreen implemented for 3x resolution; alt-tab now possible when in borderless fullscreen. Exclusive Fullscreen remains on all other resolutions.  When fullscreen is selected, the resolution options are now greyed-out.

  • Default game startup is now with full CPU usage. This is the opposite of the standard opensurge build 760, which starts in reduced CPU usage by default. CPU yield can now be enabled with the --eco-cpu-usage command line option, for when reduced CPU power consumption is desired.

  • Number of lives can be set in the command line. 1-999 lives or even infinite (use --lives 0) is now possible.

  • Game is now DPI-aware.

  • Video card in use is reported on startup.

  • Help window text alignment fixes.

Additionally, this patch fixes some issues in this mod where colored menu items appeared as e.g. color=null>Resolution without any color. This was due to some color definitions missing from the language files. The new language files contain those definitions though, so you should be able to see color in the menus again.

Finally, for the more security-oriented, here is the VirusTotal report for the updated opensurge.exe: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/51a … /detection

Enjoy!

Great job! Works beautifully!

I would like to note that Darkcreator83 does not give himself proper credit for the development of the game. He should! Where is his name in the game?

For anybody interested in modding, this game is full of bricksets.

Re: Sonic the hedgehog adventure Version Final

Build 760-2 of opensurge 0.2.0 can be downoaded from this link and fixes a serious rendering bug of my previous attempt, which occurred if you tried to set smooth graphics while on borderless fullscreen.

VirusTotal report on the new executable can be found here.

Note however, that although the bug is fixed, I would not recommend setting snooth graphics when in borderless fullscreen anyway, unless you have a reasonably powerful system. The FPS price is certainly not negligible when gfx smoothing is followed immediately by a rescale to fit the desktop resolution.

Re: Sonic the hedgehog adventure Version Final

One more update to the engine powering this great mod can be downloaded from here. This one, tagged 0.2.0 build 760-3, fixes a bug from the previous 0.2.0 build 760-2 binary, which prevented borderless fullscreen on displays as common as 1920 x 1080. Hopefully this will be the last update (honest, guv ;-) ) and things should now be as expected for all configurations.

Apart from the bug fix, this build utilizes high performance / high granularity timers as a bonus feature.

VirusTotal report on the latest executable can be found here.

Re: Sonic the hedgehog adventure Version Final

OK guys, I have made some further modifications to the 0.2.0 engine which enable Sonic the Hedgehog Adventure to be played in 16:9 aspect ratio and it looks gorgeous. The enhanced aspect ratio allows more visibility of the play area and more reaction time against the baddies, too. Plus, it is proper wide aspect in fullscreen mode rather than 4:3 stretched, so Sonic and friends look nice and cool, rather than short(er) and fat(ter).

To enable 16:9 gameplay, first you will need to download the original StHA from the link in the first post of this thread and unzip it somewhere on your hard disk. Then, download the 16:9 mod files from here and unzip them at the same location, overwriting any files you might be asked about. Once you have done that, playing in the new aspect ratio is simply a matter of firing up StHA16_9.exe.

One note about the smooth graphics option: This option is extremely CPU intensive at high resolutions. It is best to avoid it if playing in borderless fullscreen and use it only if your system is above low-end and on the default windowed resolutions only.

Finally, here is the VirusTotal report for this package. Note that both the Malwarebytes and Microsoft detections are heuristically triggered and are false positives.

Consider this one a mod of a mod, if you will, and enjoy ;-)

Re: Sonic the hedgehog adventure Version Final

Hello guys, I'm glad to know that you value the game I made, that you have worked hard to be able to play it in the Alexander update, I haven't put my name in the credits, because I haven't created one. sprite or anything, I just dedicated myself to collecting the best of the sonic saga, so that anyone can use the sprites in their games, without having to transfer them to the game or do anything, haha, now I'm creating levels in smbx2, making anime content in my instagram account, so to speak, haha, I wanted to make a sonic game, I did it to my liking, I have no plans to make another game at the moment, greetings friends. ^__^
