Possible new character: Raspberry

raspberry-sketch1.jpg

Raspberry is a kangaroo rat. She likes to program (write software). I do not have much customization on the character yet, because I want to hear feedback first.

I think she (this character) was supposed to fill the role of graphic designer from the Game Story Updates thread (in which case her preference is graphic design), but I am not sure if anything from that story is still active.

Re: Possible new character: Raspberry

wow! Can you expand on her? smile

Can you use these vivid colors?

We'll probably need a new first name as well, like Mimi the Raspberry, for example.

Yes, making her a graphic designer would be awesome! I intend to play with it, but a new story is definitely up.

One set of potential colorings:

I have another set if you all are interested.

What would be the other set?

In my opinion, she looks like a boy on the picture to the left. What if she had red hair? The pink outfit looks good.

The other set:
sketch2g.jpg

I realized while playing with these colorings that the bright red and leafy green colors are difficult to combine well.

Re: Possible new character: Raspberry

Yes, then try to focus more on feminine colorings / looks. To make her very feminine, like in the first post of the thread smile

the green won't do it imo. At best we can use it in a small way, say, in a jewlery (e.g. jade). The pink is fine, though smile

The more feminine she is, the better.

Her hip joints is too bulging forward. Can you draw her body more even (flat) or increase abdomen?

Re: Possible new character: Raspberry

Definitely more feminine now cool

I tried out a few combinations and I believe pink-blue just fits her better (it's jeans).

Regarding the green, her green eyes/ornaments are fine. smile

This is a more polished sketch based on your color edits.

I have a question, though. Were you trying to make the hair violet, or no?

I did not try it, as I saw that the brown hair would fit her skin color better.

She looks charismatic already smile

Also I noticed that she has got footwear on only one of her paws.

The other footwear is partially hiding behind the tail. Look closely for the sole of the footwear, though.

I see. If you look at her right heel, it does look like she is wearing a different model of footwear.

Whether she writes software, plays with hardware or design things, she looks a lot like Neon's sister to me. roll

Neon's sister

She is the kangaroo rat, Neon is the squirrel. Both animals belong to the family Heteromyidae.

Re: Possible new character: Raspberry

Well done! I have added her to the wiki.

http://opensnc.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Raspberry

I think we need a cute nickname for her, to use in-game. For example: "Raspie".

She would then be "Raspie" the Kangaroo Rat, even though her actual name is Raspberry.

Re: Possible new character: Raspberry

speaking of raspberry, pardon the off-topic

did that raspberry pi port turn into something? I'd be much interested to test the engine on my pi and report any feedback. see how far you can push it. we could be the first community to support original pi games instead of the usual emulation boxes

Have you asked the person who suggested it?

I haven't heard of it, but it can use Linux, and a port is totally feasible.

If there are no news about the port and you would like to port it, I can probably help.

as you may know my programming skills are limited, and i have absolutely no idea how to code for ARM or the Pi itself. I figure it's not so easy as just switching compiler

I could probably meddle with the startup scripts and have raspbian or such boot directly into the game, though.

One thing I noticed while working with openBOR is how mods are implemented. they are archive files, much like a zip, containing all assets and code used by the mod.

I suppose that if we would want to pack an SD card with OS mods we would either need a launcher app or the ability to create and load self-contained mods that do not affect the base game files unless the  creator wants to do that instead.

There are many things I implement in the engine that have great specificity and I do not tell you guys tongue as they belong more to the backend and are not so easily visible. But some months ago I was working on MOD support, and the engine has the power to run MODs (or "games") via the command line. Open Surge games are self-contained .zip files that can be redistributed with ease. At the present date this feature is for Linux / OSX (thus can be used on the Pi).

Since kangaroo rats and squirrels are not part of the same species (forget family, genus, etc.), how can Raspberry be Neon's sister?

Friend, maybe. Adopted sister, possibly. I have heard of "honorary sister" even. But she can't be Neon's actual sister.

I await your comments,
