Speedy the RollerSkater (My Future Project)

This is my idea for a game with Open Surge.

Story: ???

(Feel free to add ideas for the story)

Characters:

Speedy: The main hero of the story. He's a human boy who can skate at huge speed.
Reiji: This little boy is Speedy's best friend. He can run faster. (Note: He is my main characters on other projects I'll do in the future. He will like Mickey Mouse starring some features)
???: A female one. Suggestions are open.
???: Suggestions are open.

I would like to add images but since I'm new here and I don't know how to do it, I'll wait to upload some for the future.

Re: Speedy the RollerSkater (My Future Project)

Sounds interesting so far.

To add images, you need to upload them to an image uploading site first, like Imgur. Then you can add the images in by clicking the image icon above the post you're writing (the blue icon with a picture of mountains). This will add code in the post saying "(img)(/img)". Then copy the image's link location (right-click image, click "Copy Link Location") in between the two pieces of code to make the image appear. You can test this by clicking "Preview reply" at the bottom.

If you have lots of images, you can add them one-by-one using this method, or just put a link to all of the images with the URL icon above the post (Earth with a link symbol); it works the same as the image feature, but instead turns the link from normal text to a working link.

Here's my drawing of Speedy, the main character: https://photos.app.goo.gl/2qIDxOpuS4l4YyD12

I hope the link works.

Yes, it works just fine.

The character looks to have potential. You'll need to make a spritesheet for the in-game character for all of his animations and such. Everything you need to know about spritesheets and .spr files, which provide the sprite's properties, is here: http://opensnc.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Sprites

Re: Speedy the RollerSkater (My Future Project)

I'm sure there are tutorials out there for making sprites. A good tool to make sprites with is Paint.

Other than that, you could get someone to make them for you, but I don't know who could do that or if they'd want money for it or not. All the work I've done with sprites is just scaling down images found on the Internet and putting them on spritesheets, not actual pixel art.

So, the best option is to learn how to do it yourself. It takes a lot of time, but that's how it is with any project or game.

If you are doing it yourself, remember that the character sprites have to be very small, about 30x42 pixels per frame. Because of this, they don't have to be, and they won't be, super detailed.

Good luck. wink

Here's a sprite of Speedy standing. I used the Surge sprite as a base and some help. Hopefully it went well.

Here's some progress on Speedy's sprites: Standing and running.

Next animations are:

1) Roll Jumping
2) Skating
3) Swimming
etc.

Anyway, if someone has good ideas for the story, please let me know.

Re: Speedy the RollerSkater (My Future Project)

Looking good. You may want to make a running sprite to signify the character's top speed; and since the character's description is that he can skate at huge speed, it would make sense to have him skating in the running sprite.

Re: Speedy the RollerSkater (My Future Project)

This time, after some time being inactive here... I present you my Speedy sheet!

https://photos.app.goo.gl/h7iKpZK74SxmSfTF3

I used the Surge sheet and Shadow sprites from the Sonic Megamix hack for some help since it was my first time I do a sprites sheet but I hope it turned so good.

Still, you can update it if you wish. It's free to use and modify if you want to make it better smile

Re: Speedy the RollerSkater (My Future Project)

Looks good so far! I like the Open Surge logo and the swimming mechanic. Two things about this level though:

1. I feel that the background moves a bit too slow and doesn't convey a sense of speed. Should be easy to fix that up.

2. Try and make a consistent level brickset. The sand doesn't mix too well with the checkerboard bricks.

For a work in progress, it's looking pretty good. I also like the underground segments in the level. Can't wait to play it for myself!

1. Oh, I'll try to update the speed.

2. I see. I tried to make something similar to Neo Green Hill from Sonic Advance 1. Any ideas, tiles, or stuff I can use? You can send me some tiles I can use.

You could just use a spritesheet of Neo Green Hill and assemble the brickset with Rapid Brickset Editor:

https://www.spriters-resource.com/game_ … heet/7086/

Change the background to pink (RGB 255, 0, 255) and give credit to Shadowbot if you're going to use this.

Thanks but I meant original tiles, not copyrighted ones ^^;

Someting like the ones of OpenGameArt or other sites.

Re: Speedy the RollerSkater (My Future Project)

Okay, I don't really know any non-copyrighted tiles, so how about recolouring the checkerboard brickset to match it with the sand tiles? You can use this website to check the RGB code for the colour of the sand tile: http://www.ginifab.com/feeds/pms/pms_color_in_image.php

Adjust the hue on the checkered tileset to the same as the sand tile's RGB code to match the colours seamlessly. Remember to recolour the background to pink (RGB 255, 0, 255) or else loops and other tiles with transparency effects won't work or display properly.

Re: Speedy the RollerSkater (My Future Project)

After a LONG hiatus on this topic...

I present you a new idea for a stage on my project: Lost Ruins!

Speedy must travel the ruins of a lost civilization in order to acomplish his mission.

Video: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1yvXrA … cg_AkGipWU

As you can see in the video, I also had some little problems with the pillars, which make Speedy like rotating a bit as he goes through them. I wonder why is that?

Also I'm open to ideas for enemies. wink

Just in case I share with you the level resources so you can use them or fix them:

Are your pillar clouds? There might be a collision with that 2-pixel tall base, hence the rotation.

Interesting. How can I fix that?

Make the base passable, or remove it.
