JBM Zonique - new synth for Open Sonic.

Zonique.PNG

I've been busy recently, and it is because I've designed a new synth to generate sounds for oldskool games. It is specially designed for the Open Sonic project. It is more complex than Open Sonic FM Synth, and it is capable of creating the more complicated sounds from any Genesis game.

Check it out

That's really interesting! I'll try that out once I leave work today. smile

The only thing missing are the sound effects themselves tongue

To put it simple: If there is no sound effects generator that can create sonicesque sound effects then there won't be any sound effects at all in the long run. My father told me once: If you need a task done then do it, if you need a tool to get the task done then build it smile.

You're absolutely right, jobromedia.

Your tool is very useful, and we thank you very much for developing it. smile What we don't have yet is a person who can use the tool to create the sound effects we need. Is it possible for you and/or someone else to help us with that?

Re: JBM Zonique - new synth for Open Sonic.

hey jobromedia your zonique is very good big_smile
but not all is praise, there are some remarks:

it's kinda hard to figure out how the dials are linked. adding graphics for envelopes can help visualizing how the sound is going to behave. Your vst sounds better than the DX10 in FL9, however the big difference is on the graphics. i can program a sound in DX10 very quickly, and even though the dials do almost the same, in your plugin it takes longer because it's all ear work.

Re: JBM Zonique - new synth for Open Sonic.

Adding visualization is something I had in my plans. Unfortunatly if I'm adding it now then I'm forced to redo all presets. But I might consider adding visualizers to make it simplier to tweak the synth. big_smile

Then again let's face it. Did the sound & music designers for the Genesis games have the luxury of visualization as an aid? I think not. They had to create a sound and listen with their ears to get the sounds right. In that sense I'm fully with them. You're getting your hearing much better if you have to practice. Back in 1986 I bought a Casio CZ 1000. This synth had no visualization at all. I had to read through 150 pages user manual to understand it's design fully. But as I said. I might consider adding visualization. That is if enough people want it. big_smile
