Act II should be played as Surge as well.

Maybe, but I mainly did it to add a bit of variety.

If "to add a bit of variety" distorts the storyline, then I think you should forget about "variety."

This however, is a seriously good example of proactivity. Great job, JStheguy. Also, there's definitely room for improvement. Note the following:

Open Surge Wiki: Sunshine Paradise wrote:

Act 1

This act must be very easy to get through. The idea is that the player should get familiar with the controls: learn how to walk, run, jump, etc. About 2 minutes of gameplay is okay.

Important guidelines:

- give the player lots of space to run (giving him/her the speed shoes would be nice)
- plenty of green areas
- avoid too many obstacles and/or puzzles
- please avoid restricted/clumsy areas: give the player a large, open space.
- NO WATER (it's okay to have waterfalls, but the player must not get too much into water)
- remember: the player may not know how to play yet! Please make things easy!

Act 2

Act 2 must also be easy to get through, but it's okay to have a few easy obstacles for the player. Please give the player a straightforward direction to follow: avoid confusing areas. About 3 minutes of gameplay is okay.

Important guidelines:

- give the player lots of open space
- please avoid restricted/clumsy areas: give the player a large, open space.
- lots of waterfalls
- NOT MUCH WATER (remember: Sunshine Paradise is NOT a water level!)
- remember: the player may not know how to play yet! Please make it easy!
- it's okay to have lots of water on the background (users can't dive into those), but the player shouldn't really struggle/drown on it. It's just the first level!

Open Surge Wiki: Game Story wrote:

- Surge rushes off. Neon rushes off in the opposite direction.

- Surge rushes to the waterfall.

'Sunshine Paradise Act 2'

At the river bank, Surge sees a dam. (Note how it focused on Surge before, throughout, and after the second act of Sunshine Paradise.

EDIT: Mind trying these? I fixed your levels slightly, and made them a tad bit easier.

Re: A Collection of Modifications-NEW! Lots o' new stuff

Chris, the Sunshine1.lev you provided is a copy of the original level.

I like what has been done so far, but some of the paths are too hard for a first level. Slopes should be gentle, some shapes are too weird and newbies might get stuck in many of the pits or tight places. that would be a good design for level 3 or 4, where the game starts getting harder and levels more complex.

Re: A Collection of Modifications-NEW! Lots o' new stuff

Well a "Hard Gameplay" quest could be made in the extras. where all the levels are more difficult. Kind of like 0.1.4's "Exotic Hell".

ok, so you're not exactly trying to make the level as specified, but an alternative harder version?

Re: A Collection of Modifications-NEW! Lots o' new stuff

OK, let me say this just to get it out there. This was a project I intended to make for myself. But I thought it fun so I put it out here to see what people think of it. It is not for the Open Surge project itself. Think of it on its own terms, not as a content submission for the Open Surge project.
On a side note: I made a Gems Mod for you all to try and will release V.1.2 of Sunshine Paradise Extended Edition once I get permission to use SurgeChris' additions.

Cool! This is probably the first mod featuring Surge and his friends. Nice job! smile

The tunnel, it was originally supposed to be a quick run through, but the physics engine wouldn't have it.

The physics engine allows you to do that, yes, but you have to set up the angles right. If you just place the platforms in the screen without taking care of the angles, it just won't work out. wrath felt in the very same trap some time ago. The result? clumsy physics. Those tiny loops (Surge is quite big) are also problematic.

I think we need to get better groups of objects. The ones we have right now are tiny, and they mislead users in many ways: bad loops, bad tunnels... even curvy floors behave badly, since they're not predicted in the brickset!

RBE does not replace a caring human, after all (although it helps).

Re: A Collection of Modifications-NEW! Lots o' new stuff

@JStheguy: Sure! The levels are yours, so why shouldn't I allow you? Use the changes to your heart's content, since its base was your level anyways.

@KZR: Lol I renamed the wrong file. I guess that cleared up a confusion I had yesterday. Expect the correct file and a revised Act II tomorrow.

EDIT: This copy should be the correct one.

That level should be Waterworks Zone. I like the idea of gems instead of rings, but they look too much like red chaos emeralds.

May we adopt ideas for your second level for Waterworks Zone? Just like S32X, I think the level fits.

Sure. (The SLZ brickset was going to be an submission for Waterworks Zone art, but I thought it was too shit compared to other graphics.)
The entire mod collection will be getting a major update soon. It will combine all the mods into 1 download, add a new character and a new quest for the mods.

Don't swear, lol. Thanks for the approval though. Leave the brickset to us.

@SurgeChris

Is anything less intense than "crap" okay?

@JStheguy

The graphics you made a PERFECT for Waterworks Zone! But a new background would be nice.

AWESOME JOB, JStheguy! That is what proactivity really means. Keep that up! And the hub world thing's interesting. smile

@S32X: Yes. Just keep in mind that, if you don't have to, then don't use the word.
